 Admission Brochure for International Students in Shaoyang University (2026)

Shaoyang University was founded in 1958 and its medical specialty can be traced back to 1906. It was upgraded to the university in 2002 by the merger of the former Shaoyang Normal Higher Specialized School and the former Shaoyang Higher Specialized School. Shaoyang Medical Higher Specialized School was merged into it in 2016. The university is a province-owned full-time general undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education with the qualification for enrollment of the Masters Degree students and international students under the Service National Special Needs Talent Training Project and was recognized as a high-level applied university in Hunan Province in 2018.

The university boasts excellent infrastructure, covering an area of 1.6644 million square meters, with building space totaling 0.8799 million square meters. It possesses research and teaching instruments valued at 0.317 billion yuan, and a library collection of 3.5646 million volumes, including 2.2746 million printed books.

Significant progress has been made in the construction of academic disciplines and majors. With 22 teaching colleges, the university offers two Masters Degree programs in mechanical, biological and medical disciplines under the Service National Special Needs Talent Training Project. There are 6 Application Characteristic Disciplines of Hunan Province and 55 undergraduate majors, covering 11 major academic categories, including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and arts. The university enrolls students from 30 provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions), totaling 27,593 full-time students.

Shaoyang University gained international student enrollment qualifications in 2012, started admitting international students for language studies in 2015 and began accepting international students for undergraduate programs in 2019. The university has actively engaged in international exchanges and cooperation, establishing various forms of collaboration with universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Malaysia and other countries. There are now international students from Russia, Laos, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan , Tajikistan and so on.

2. Enrollment Plan

The language study program will admit 30 students.

For undergraduate programs, the enrollment is limited to a maximum of 20 students.

 

3. Fees

3.1 Accommodation Fees

The accommodation consists of apartment-style double rooms with an annual fee of 4,000 RMB per person, and the supporting facilities are as follows:

Note: Students shall bear the costs of water, electricity and internet services themselves. Other relevant dormitory fees will be charged on the basis of actual circumstances.
3.2 Other Fees

- Insurance fee: 800 yuan per year

- Residence permit fee: 800 yuan per year

- Medical examination fee: about 500 yuan per person

- Textbook fee: about 1,000 yuan per year

- Air-conditioning maintenance fee: 100 yuan per year

 All the above fees are charged based on actual costs.


4. Eligibility

4.1 Non-Chinese citizens who are willing to comply with Chinese laws and regulations of Shaoyang University, study hard and are in good health.

4.2 Applicants for language study must be between 18-25 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.

4.3 Applicants for undergraduate study must be between 18-25 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent and an HSK4 score of 180 or above.

4.4 Required Documents:

-Application for Admission (see Appendix 1, to be filled by the applicant);

-Photocopy of the passport information page (in principle with a validity of at least one year beyond enrollment);

-Photocopy of highest diploma or notarized Chinese/English translated document (with official seal);

-Photocopy of HSK 4 examination result within the validity period (required for undergraduate applicants only);

-Physical Examination Form for Foreigners (see Appendix 2, strictly adhere to the requirements and the form is invalid if any items are incomplete, the applicants photo is not attached, the photo lacks official stamps or if there are no signatures from the physician and the hospital).

-No Criminal Conviction Certificate or notarized Chinese/English translated document (issued by the local public security authority);

-Bank statement (showing funds equivalent to one years tuition fees, sufficient to cover reasonable expenses for study and living during the study period).

-Self-introduction video (not exceeding 1 minute, in mp4 format within 40MB, suggested in English for language program applicants; required in Chinese for undergraduate applicants, sent to the email on time).

-Applicants in the Visual Communication Design major are required to submit one self-designed artwork.

4.5 All application materials must be submitted by email before June 15, 2026. Applicants are also required to bring the original documents which will be checked, verified and archived during the registration process.

4.6 Interview Session

Applicants will proceed to the interview session upon receiving the interview notification.

1. Interview Format: Online interview, approximately 10 minutes per applicant.

2. Interview Content: It focuses on assessing the applicants Chinese/English communication skills, cross-cultural adaptability and overall personal quality.

3. Schedule Arrangement: Interview notifications will be sent via email, which will include the interview time, meeting link and relevant notes.

4. Notes to Applicants: Applicants must keep their communication channels open and attend the interview on time; absence without valid reasons will be regarded as an automatic waiver of the application qualification. Applicants are required to present their passports during the interview and ensure a stable internet connection and a quiet environment throughout the process.

6. Scholarship Policies

6.1 Language Learning Scholarship

The Language Learning Scholarship includes Hunan Provincial Scholarship for Chinese Language Learning Students from Belt and Road Partner Countries and Type A scholarships. Applicants for Hunan Provincial Scholarship for Chinese Language Learning Students from Belt and Road Partner Countries should submit the application form for Hunan Provincial Scholarship for Chinese Language Learning Students from Belt and Road Partner Countries (See Appendix 3) to the designated email by May 15, 2026. Type A scholarships are intended to reward language learning students who do not receive Hunan Provincial Scholarship for Chinese Language Learning Students from Belt and Road Partner Countries.

6.2 Undergraduate Degree Scholarship

The Undergraduate Degree Scholarship includes the Hunan Province Scholarship for International Students (Degree Students), Type B Scholarships and Type C Scholarships. The Hunan Province Scholarship for International Students (Degree Students) is awarded based on the comprehensive performance and study during the applicants study period. Type B Scholarships are designated for rewarding first-year undergraduate degree students, while Type C Scholarships aim at rewarding second to fourth(or fifth)-year registered students of undergraduate programs.

Note: Applicants are not allowed to simultaneously receive two or more scholarships from the mentioned categories.


7. Important Notes

7.1 For all documents in languages other than Chinese or English, in addition to the original, applicants must provide notarized translations in Chinese or English. Documents exceeding two pages need cross-page seal or each page should bear the official seal;

7.2 All application materials must remain valid throughout the admission evaluation period

7.3 Applicants are responsible for the authenticity and completeness of the submitted materials. Inaccurate or incomplete application materials will not be accepted by the university;

7.4 Students who fail to timely pay insurance fee, medical examination fee, tuition and other related charges will not be registered;

7.5 The university will not ask for any fees in any form from international students before their enrollment;

7.6 Applicants can log into their email accounts to check the admission results.
